Square Enix may be publishing Modern Warfare 2 in Japan
No word if the game will now take place in space, if the humans are replaced with robots, and all objectives replaced with LASERS.
Posted on a not so mysterious teaser website, we see a giant number 2. This would be more mysterious if, as IGN.com points out, you can read “Activision and Call of Duty are register trademarks of Activision publishing” at the bottom.
It’s queer that Square Enix (Eidos?) would publish such a…non-Japanese game in Japan. Square Enix has quite a reputation though, and the word of mouth that the game is popular in America, and Square Enix’s reputation for great games may be enough to push a few copies.
My prediction though is one of two extremes. It will either likely not break 50k copies sold, or break 1 million for PS3, and maybe a few of them will be for the 360, but I don’t see it moving consoles. That is, unless there is some sort of deal where by buying a copy of MW2 for PS3, you’re invited to the closed beta of FF14.
I’m really just guessing, but this sort of Trojan horsing seemed to work with the FF13 demo on Advent Children Complete, why not FF14 with a totally unrelated game?
