Splinter Cell: Conviction gets ads during torture
Sometimes when a game has real ads, it adds to the realism. I know I’d feel more immersed in Liberty City if there were KFCs and Starbucks around instead of Cluckin’ Bell and other one I forget. But in Splinter Cell: Conviction, I’m not so sure.
Even more so considering the ads were only mentioned that this in-game ads will be during the “choose your own torture” segments. It’s likely that if it’s there during the torture segments, it’ll be there outside of it as well though.
Also mentioned is Ubisoft handing over the maps of player activity and death, giving advertisers the choice of where to place the ads based on player activity. Sorta weird, and a little creepy, but not much more creepy than the ads in Battlefield 2 that measured how long and from what angle you looked at an ad.
I’m a firm believer that programs like Netflix and Amazon, with their ability to predict user choice, will lead to the creation of Skynet. Imagine Skynet, but with spam and ads, and be afraid.
