Rock Band 3 Will Actually Teach People To Rock
One of the biggest complaints filed at the Rock Band and Guitar Hero series of games is that they teach children to press buttons, and take away from the appeal of learning real instruments. While people have defended this by citing the fact it actually introduces gamers to the real instruments if the desire exists.
However Dhani Harrison, the son of The Beatles’ George Harrison who worked on Beatles Rock Band, has declared that the next Rock Band will completely gap this divide
I’m working on Rock Band 3 and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game. Give me a couple years, it’s going to happen.
While it’s probably going to be a while till we see the next Rock Band (aside from the spin-offs such as Lego Rock Band), it’s a big possibility that this could indeed happen. The Ion Drum Rocker for Rock Band is halfway there, considering it’s a real electronic drum kit, and speaking from a drummers perspective it’s as close to the real thing as an electronic drum kit can get.
But regardless the guitars have been at the focal point of the criticism so with that this seems like a natural evolutionary step. How they’ll pull it off remains to be seen, maybe you’ll get cord or riff details fall down the screen as you strum on a real guitar, which will be insanely difficult, as it’ll be like learning a song while playing it at the same time.
If nothing else Harmonix have an uphill struggle in front of them, one many believe will be accomplished.
