SIlverlight Major Nelson Dont Worry About Silverlight Ads

Microsoft have recently announced that they are bringing Silverlight advertisements to the Xbox 360. In an attempt to quell any fears people have about this development, Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson, has put a post up on his blog to reassure people that this will not lead to a massive increase in the number of advertisements people see on the dashboard. He also assures us that advertisements will become a “more organic part of the dashboard”.

As might be expected the typical response to his reassurance was less than positive. Most were along the lines of “I pay for a Gold subscription, so why should I have advertisements on my Xbox 360?”

On a personal level, I am not too concerned about Silverlight adverts. So long as the advertisements are not obtrusive or forced upon us, then they are not a problem and may even be a good thing if they help keep the cost of a Gold Subscription down.

The Silverlight integration into the Xbox 360 is expected within a year, so we wont have too long too wait until we find out if the dashboard will become as Major Nelson puts it “something that looks like like Shibuya Crossing.”
