Infinity Ward pulls promotional PSA
Everybody makes mistakes, even Infinity Ward/Activision and their promotional team.
A video promoting the stopping of grenade spam, the Fight Against Grenade Spam, has been pulled from Infinity Ward’s official youtube channel.
I saw the video itself, and I didn’t even put the acronym together (FAGS, get it?!) until I heard it elsewhere, and the apparent controversy surrounding it. From what I can tell from Joystiq and various tweets on the Twitter, people are upset that Infinity Ward seems to be appealing to the worst kind of gamers.
When you think of Xbox Live, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Probably some kind of slur or insult, but whatever it is, it plagues all forms of gaming. I personally think that’s just what happens when you have a sample size of this many people.
It’s nice to see IW being sensitive to the reactions from around the web, but maybe they should think these things through. It could even be they’re trying to purposefully stir up controversy by releasing a video they know will piss someone off, like showing the scene where you shoot civilians.
Not many people liked it, but it got MW2 on national news. This video pissed people off, but it’s all over net news, even here! Like they say, any press is good press.
