Harmonix Plan To Get Your Own Music On Rock Band
Rock Band is a unique platform for relatively unknown artists, the potential to get your songs heard by millions of gamers and music fans is only surpassed by the official music charts themselves. So now MTV have announced in a press release that anyone with multitrack files will be able to upload their own music to Rock Band via the Rock Band Network.
The Rock Band Network enables songwriters and musicians – at any stage of their careers – to create their own paths through the interactive music realm. Our download store has been an extraordinary success, and it’s exciting for us to provide access to our platform through this uniquely elegant solution
The beta for the Rock Band Network will open in late August this year on the Xbox 360 with the PlayStation and Wii networks to follow suit later in the year. However only members with Microsoft’s XNA Creators Club Online will be able to test and publish game content which will come in at $49.99 for four months or $99.99 for a year.
Details on how the process of uploading and turning your riffs and beats into flashing coloured boxes are scarce at the moment but artists are expected to get 30% of all profits gained from their tracks downloads.
Songs will have to pass approval before they are accepted in to the Rock Band Music Store so don’t expect any garbage to get through. With that however music games seem to be moving closer and closer to the eventual goal of having an iTunes like library of music for download.
