Gears of War 2 Title Update and DLC Details
Gears of War 2 will be receiving a third title update, four new multiplayer maps and nine new achievements – all before the end of March.
First up on March 24, Epic’s action horror title will receive its third title update that will fix numerous bugs and make improvements to the online multiplayer, namely by removing the TrueSkill element and reverting to an experience based system. (However, the TrueSkill system will still be used to match players evenly.)
Alongside this title update, nine new achievements will be unleashed to the chainsaw wielding population:
“Rookie Gear” (10 points): Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 5 (Public only).
“Seasoned Gear” (20 points): Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 15 (Public only).
“Battle-Tested Gear” (30 points): Earn enough multiplayer experience to reach level 25 (Public only).
“Battle-Hardened Gear” (50 points): Reach level 50 and play a match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (Public only).
“Veteran Gear” (75 points): Reach level 100 and win a match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (Public only).
“Never Eat Red Snow” (20 points): Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Snowblind Map Pack maps in Horde (any difficulty).
“Icy Dead People” (25 points): Complete waves 1 through 50 on any Snowblind Map Pack map in Horde (any difficulty).
“Frigid Body Dynamics” (5 points): Play a multiplayer match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (any mode).
“The Weather Outside Is Lethal” (15 points): Win a multiplayer match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (any mode).
The achievements add a total of 250 points and take the maximum possible for GoW2 to 1425. For those of you screaming and shouting about what the Snowblind Map Pack is, fear not as the details on the four new maps are below:
Grind Yard: Huge industrial complex with low bunkers and good sniping opportunities
Under Hill: Utilizes snowy tunnels for claustrophobic battles
Courtyard: Open-plan map for large scale battles
Fuel Depot: A rehash of the original Gears map but this time with a winter twist
No price point has been set but we expect it to be around 800 MSP, the same as the previously released Combustible Map Pack.
With March being a huge month for DLC, it will be interesting to see how Gears fares against COD: World at War and FIFA 09 amongst others.
The COD:WaW Map Pack is also adding four new maps and FIFA 09 is adding Ultimate Team, an entire new mode. Only time (and a lot of purchases) will tell.
