Developers may soon have the option to disable party chat
It’s funny, something that has been rumored to be coming to the PS3 may be getting broken on the 360. Well, not ‘broken’, but disabled for certain games.
According to the Examiner, Modern Warfare 2 will disable party chat, giving you the option to leave party chat and use the in-game chat or leave the game. As Examiner points out, this will reduce the ability for someone to give information in a free-spectating game to the rest of their team.
What I’m wondering, will it only happen if the person happens to be in the same game? Will it be intelligent enough to distinguish that? If I’m in a different instance of MW2, a separate ’server’, can I still chat with friends also playing MW2? If I just happen to be in MW2 while chatting with someone in a different game entirely, will I still need to leave chat?
Of course, this can all be circumvented with any number of things like Skype, or Ventrillo. Some PC games try and prevent ‘team spying’ by blacking out your screen if you and another user are both using the same IP, I know Counter Strike: Source does.
I’m hoping MW2 and IW are smart enough to know that I’m not feeding vital team data to my friend playing Viva Pinata.
