Blu-ray no longer confirmed on 360
In a surprise twist I’d expect of M. Night Shyamalan, blu-ray will not be coming to the 360. Apparently, when your CEO says something, it’s not confirmation enough. Also, it was all a dream.
Posted over at Major Nelson(Director of Programming for XBL)’s blog, he had this to say:
“During an interview yesterday, Steve Ballmer was asked about Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360. I wanted to clear something up. Steve was referring to Blu-Ray accessories for the PC. As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360.”
There’s some other stuff about how streaming is rad and 360 rules, but it’s mostly PR speak.
Note how he says that there are “no plans” for a blu-ray addon. Recently, we’ve also heard that there is “no plans” for a new PSP (the Go) and a PS3 redesign (the slim). It’s not new to hear about “no plans” after someone accidentally reveals something, but I could be wrong.
