Square Enix has finally given a release date for the Japanese demo of their highly anticipated game, Final Fantasy XIII.    The demo is going to be available on April 16th, the same day as the release of the Advent Children Bluray in Japan.  Don’t get so eager there, importers; there is a hefty price to pay in order to obtain a copy of the demo.

The demo can be obtained one of two ways.  The first way is to purchase Final Fantasy XIII Trial Version set, which includes both the demo of the game as well as Final Fantasy: Advent Children.  IGN and 1up are reporting that the set will run for approximately 5,900 yen, or about $65 USD.  The other way to get your hands on a copy of the demo is to buy the Black Cloud 160GB PS3, a limited edition version of the console that will include the FF XIII demo.  This goes for 49,890 yen, or $550 USD.  Include import costs, and either method costs well more than purchasing a $60 dollar game, and this is just for the demo!

The trial should work on PS3’s worldwide, and 1up.com is reporting will be about two hours long.  There is currently no definite release date for the game in the US except that it is expected in 2010.
