PS3 Cross-game voice chat may be coming next firmware update
At long last, you’ll be able to chat between games, not tethered to sending text messages between your friends, spending half an hour typing. I still remember when that was put in, and people believed that it was the technological marvel of the century.
Really though, another accidental, after the accidental announcement of Infamous 2, I figured it would taper off. According to Destructoid, on the official Naughty Dog forums a Naughty Dog employee posted the following:
“I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy [sic] the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies [sic] positions.”
Remember, this was posted on a forum by an employee, and it was hardly a formal announcement, so it might not be coming after all. I mean I’m sure it’s coming, but I’m not so sure of it coming as soon as the next update. On the other hand no date is given, so the supposed update could be a ways out. Either way, I hope that they announce they’ll be bundling blue tooth headsets with their systems at the same time.
