Ok ok, I know…in a way, this has been done before. But I have to put in my two cents. But first, a little history about what it known today as Square Enix.

Final Fantasy was spawned by a company named Square co. in its darkest days. If Final Fantasy didn’t sell well, Square co. would be gone forever. Obviously the game sold well; well enough to develop twelve other main series titles, at least ten spin-off’s or sequels, two computer animated full length films, a full anime series, and plaster the shelf’s of anime shops around the world with Final Fantasy paraphernalia.  In 1989, with new found inspiration and direction Square co. was established as Square Soft inc. Square Soft stuck with the formula, and developed more Final Fantasy games. In 2003 Square Soft combined with Enix co. to form the game developers we all know and love, Square Enix.

As many gamers know, each of the sequels to Final Fantasy have very few, if any similarities. Each game takes place in a completely different universe with completely different characters, save for the occasional moogle, chocobo, or character named Cid. Even though there have already been two movies done with Final Fantasy in the title, there should be one unifying creation that puts all these characters on a level playing ground. All the Final Fantasy fanboys and fangirls would go bonkers to see something like this. As far as cinematic development goes for this film, I’ll leave this one to your imagination and the artistic masters of Square Enix. Take a look at the last two movies under the Final Fantasy name. Final Fantasy – The Spirits Within was a beautiful computer generated movie that was years ahead of its time. The same goes for Final Fantasy – Advent Children. If you keep the trend going, a universal title would be just as gorgeous, just as detailed, and just as fantastic as the other two films.

Square Enix is, by no stretch of the imagination, failing as a game developing company, so they can afford to take these kind of creative risks. Take a look at Dissidia: Final Fantasy. This game has smoothly collaborated many of their Final Fantasy worlds into a single game. If this is possible, why not pursue a movie that takes the epic hero’s from the final fantasy games and pit them against a singular overwhelming evil; one who would make the almighty badass Sephiroth wet himself.

With the powerful media Square Enix has distributed under the title of Final Fantasy, there is no reason why they could not take one, or more of these story-arch’s and develop it into a movie. It seems like they have focused on Final Fantasy 7 more than any other in their archive. Maybe 11 almost as much just because it is a MMORPG. But i say leave FF7 alone and let’s focus on their other fantastic games like FF3, FF10, or FF12 and develop them into films.

Square Enix is an ambitious company. They are currently working on FF13, The Advent Children movie remake, the next Crystal Chronicles game for the Wii, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days, coded, and Birth by sleep, just to name the new media we know about. With all these projects and more, Square Enix keeps itself busy. If they have time, I would love to see Cloud, Tidus, and balthier ridding chocobo’s side by side up on the big screen one day. Wouldn’t you?
