PC gamers speak up against Modern Warfare 2, again
I’ve tried to chronicle what’s happened to Modern Warfare 2, from the lack of dedicated servers, to the PSA being pulled, and now we’ve got this. PC gamers are bombing various websites with extremely low user ratings. IGN, Metacritic, and Amazon all have a user rating of somewhere around 1 out of 10.
I understand your rage, but come on, PC gamers. Infinity Ward has not wronged you personally, quit being so upset. It may be a game that you were greatly looking forward to, and you may feel wronged, but it’s just one game. Some people, myself included, are worried that all PC games are going to move in this direction, especially if Modern Warfare 2 on PC sells well. If you don’t want more games like this, simply do not buy it.
All you are doing by review-bombing, especially poorly written reviews, is telling the internet that PC gamers are idiots. Remember the idiots who review bombed Gears of War 2 and Killzone 2, because they were the opposite console’s fanboy? That’s what you’re doing, and it shames us all.

Wow, could you have missed the point further?
“Remember the idiots who review bombed Gears of War 2 and Killzone 2, because they were the opposite console’s fanboy?”
They were idiots because they were review bombing based on a console they didn’t like, rather than on the game itself.
The people review bombing MW2 are doing it based on the game itself, and are the people directly affected by the negative changes, so they have every right to make their voices heard through whatever means necessary. A ~200,000 strong petition did nothing, so showing your displeasure where the average gamer might see it is the next step.
You say that if people don’t like it they should just not buy the game, and I totally support anyone doing that, but all that’s really going to achieve is giving Activision and Infinity Ward more reason to not release future games on PC at all – they’ll blame low PC sales on piracy, completely ignoring their own part in it.
“PC gamers. Infinity Ward has not wronged you personally, quit being so upset.”
No, they’ve wronged all the god knows how many people who played MW1 semi-seriously on PC. Those people have every right to be annoyed.
“it’s just one game”
“Some people, myself included, are worried that all PC games are going to move in this direction.”
See the contradiction there?
You are forgetting the sad, but true bottom line. Activision is a business, and Modern Warfare 2 is a product. They can do whatever they want with it and as long as they make money they’ll keep on doing it. Possibly justified rage aside, from an ease of running the game standpoint and the fact that it makes piracy that much harder, in their eyes, you can at least see why Infinity Ward would do some of this. I’m not saying it doesn’t suck, because it does, it just is a sad result of the realities of business.
I think the sales of the game are far over-hyped.I ordered the pc version but will now just send it back after reading how bad the Multi-player is.I won’t pay that much money for a 8 hour single player gaming experience that cannot be resold.
Well they can sell it to the business people then, if its all about money….
If Activision is a business, then I am their customer and If I feel that I have been robbed $60 for a simple 360 port than I have every right to speak up against it.
@LVandenbusch: None of these changes make piracy more difficult, they can’t justify it from that perspective. In fact, all they’re doing is pushing people TOWARDS piracy.
And as for making money – it hasn’t cost them less to screw this up than it would to have made it as good as MW1, but it has cost them sales. It’s a bad move from a monetary perspective too. At the very least, the huge amounts of negative will they’ve generated from this will cost them a lot of sales of MW3. People had to buy this one before they knew how bad it was, but they’ve got a bad taste in their mouth now, and it’ll definitely work against future sequels.
The user scores are a bit too low yes. But seriously, if i can finish the game in about 3 hours at a friend’s house there obviously isn’t anything to warrant such high scores as critics are giving in the SP campaign. Then in multiplayer it seems to constantly make an American host, when all the other players are Australian.
Even if another Australian is hosting, the ping is still terrible. Unlike consoles there is no guarantee that the host has a computer good enough for hosting.
I’m thinking some critics were paid off, or they simply played it via LAN somehow and it seemed fun against their office buddies, try playing it from a house and see how well it works, especially one not on the west coast of America.
@Ashpolt: You really REALLY need to stop bitching along with every other PC gamer. Nobody gives a *** what you all think, seriously. Your voices, even if they are heard, won’t make a difference because no matter how hard you hope, 90% of MW2 players adore it and therefore Infinity Ward wins and always will win. Recheck your attitude. Call of Duty is one of the biggest FPS series of all time. So with that I say take your sore, PC-only, anti-mainstream console asses out of the picture because you can say what you want but it does not mean you can change anything with what you say. Don’t bother trying to make some witty or overly thought out reply for me because I couldn’t care any less about this shitty blog I stumbled upon randomly so I won’t be reading it. I hope you have enjoyed your reality check. Now go play some more of your crappy PC games and leave economics to people who have attended a four year college and work for a sales management company. kthxbai nub
“Don’t bother trying to make some witty or overly thought out reply for me.”
Well that about says it all, doesn’t it?
“Don’t bother trying to make some witty or overly thought out reply for me”
Well, that says it all really, doesn’t it?
