See what could have been Bayonetta’s UI
I always felt that after the first Devil May Cry, there was only one kind of UI for Japanese third-person action games. There may have been games before it, but the one that DMC used is the one that I saw, and still see to this day.
Apparently, there is a huge amount of work that goes into the health bar for any given game, as chronicled by this blog post at the Platinum Games blog. A lone man who did the entire UI design for Bayonetta, who says he’s only been on game design for three years, and is still “wet behind the ears”.
It’s all about the long nights, a few regrets, and how the UI was only finalized “in the nick of time” before release. Also, the below piece of art shows up, which looks like a bunch of alternate designs for the health/magic bar for the game.

Be sure to read the post to sympathize with the poor, new guy.
